New office premises of the Sri Lanka Honorary Consulate in Sao Paulo were declared open by Ambassador (General) Jagath Jayasuriya on 5th December on an invitation by Dr. Sohaku Raimundo Cesar Bastos, Honorary Consul General for Sri Lanka in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
The new premises are located in Pacaembu, one of the top neighborhoods of Sao Paulo, which is highly renowned for its mansions and luxury houses. The new consulate building itself boasts about the rich architecture and also the affluent community living in the area.
The new consulate office is equipped with special display places for Sri Lankan products, meeting rooms for business gatherings and a separate area for consular activities. The large lawn area provides ample space for festival activities organized by the consulate.
Addressing the business gathering, Dr. Sohaku Raimundo said that the idea of moving the consulate to the new location was a result of well thought plan by him and his staff. “There was a need to move the Consulate to a bigger house to take the full advantage of the potential that the state of Sao Paulo has to offer as being the largest regional economy in Brazil and one of the largest in Latin America by GDP” said Dr. Raimundo.
Ambassador Jayasuriya said that the new building will certainly help the Embassy to carry out its business programmes much more effectively and productively. He further said that the Embassy is in the process of organizing several networking programmes in 2017 which includes a Ministerial visit to Sao Paulo. “We are thankful to Dr. Sohaku and his team for the arrangements made to relocate the Consulate to this new prestigious area which would certainly help enhance bilateral relations, especially in the sphere of growing trade relations” said Ambassador Jayasuriya.
Several high profile businessmen and professionals attended the opening ceremony. Mr. Ricardo Castilho, lawyer by profession and owner of the law school EPD - Escola Paulista de Direito located in the city of Sao Paulo also attended the programme.
