embassy of sri lanka

Sri Lanka´s diplomatic relations date back to 1950s and, in 1960s, the Government of Sri Lanka established its first permanent Mission in Rio de Janeiro, the then capital of Brazil. However, the Sri Lanka Mission in Rio de Janeiro was closed down in 1970 and Brazil was accredited to the Sri Lanka Mission in Havana.

Sri Lanka Embassy was reopened in Brasília, the new Capital of Brazil in December 2002. In 2015, the Government of Sri Lanka purchased a new building for the Embassy in prestigious Lago Sul (South Lake) in Brasilia.

Sri Lanka and Brazil maintain excellent bilateral relations and work together on mutual understanding and support in international forums, particularly in the UN and the Group of 77 etc.

The Sri Lanka Embassy in Brasília is presently accredited to five countries in the region i.e. Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Suriname. Strong and healthy relations are being maintained with these countries through five Honorary Consuls.
